What works so far

The small backpack was a good decision. I did not miss anything – maybe a manicure set that I could not bring with me on board – and there are still many items in the bag that I did not touch at all. I purchased new things to carry though, like my new flip-flop that I bought in Bali, as the old ones broke. Well, I actually carried the old pair with me as well for a while, until I had to downsize my bag before my flight to KL.

It’s fine not to have the suncream, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel with me from home. I could buy everything for the same price like at home, or for less. I bought a soap in Java for 0,1 USD, and suncream in Bali for 9 USD. I buy the small version of these, and don’t carry them for the next flight. I did not use completely what I bought, but the toothpaste was just the right size, and used the last bit before boarding to the flight to KL.

The tablet is really useful. It is much easier to edit the blog, even if I don’t have any clue about how it looks like on a PC or a laptop. And it is much easier to handle the already more than 1500 fotos, than on the mobile.

Being wifi-dependent is just not good. While in Singapore even the shittiest hostel has a great wifi, this is not the case in Lombok or Gili. Actually there was no fast wifi anywhere in Indonesia, where I visited. But the mobile net is super cheap, 6 GB data with SIM card is about 8 USD. Well, not always fast, but it works.

Maps.me. And this is not a paid ad. Really. But it is a life saver. How did I travel the world before without it? I also uploaded new apps to my mobile and my tablet, but this is the one I used the most. The funniest ever is, that I drafted this post while leaving Indonesia, and I realized only when arrived to Kuala Lumpur, that I missed to download the map of Malaysia, so I can’t use it. So, standing there alone in the middle of KL, without internet connection, map and any kind of assistance, I got a quick answer to my previous question.

… and what doesn’t work

The keyboard bout for the tablet is just not comfy. It doesn’t work for me. I type slower than on my touchscreen. It is about 200 g, so I might actually throw it away.

I don’t have enough cables for charging my devices. I have one for the iphone and another for all the micro-usb devices. The later is only 10 cm long, I guess I thought I spare 1 gram with not having it longer.

And I only have one plug with me, so I can charge only one device at a time, though usually I could do more. It is not fun, when in the evening you try to figure out how to charge your phone, the tablet, the camera and your headlamp when leaving at 1 am to climb another mountain.

My black h&m t-shirt is just not good. I have only 2 t-shirts, so it does matter. The color is fine. But only after a couple laundries it has several holes. Well, they say, that with a less elegant look you have more chance not to be overcharged. So, I’m not sure if this goes to the positive or the negative list.

My mosquito repellent is just not working, though it is local. I’m sticky from the layers of it on my skin, even spray around my bed, but in the morning I wake up with more mosquito bites. And the ants love me too, and they also bite me regularly. I need to buy something really lethal at my next destination, as this just cannot go on like this.
